The Five Winemakers Saturday 18th May
So this year, I’m really excited to reveal that we have three new Estates coming over; the Kalfu Estate from Chile with the very enthusiastic and knowledgeable Janina Doyle, the Belhara Estate from Argentina with the winemaker Stephen Huse, a quietly spoken Frenchman, his Malbec was my biggest seller last Christmas, then the Lemberg Estate from South Africa, arguably the smallest Estate in South Africa with Suzette van Rensburg, some truly remarkable wines, then Trentham Estate from Australia, Anthony Murphy, his Nebbiolio is always a head turner, he was with us five years ago, and lastly the returning Darling Estate from South Africa with Lourens Relihan, his wines just continue to gain stature.
For those new to the evening, the evening will run along the lines of a glass of something interesting on arrival followed by a brief self-introduction from each winemaker, you’ll then have the opportunity to taste the wines and ask questions. A total of over 25 plus wines will be open to taste over the 2 hours, so plenty of time to taste everything. Importantly their styles really do offer something for everyone, and I do really stress no prior skills are required, just the ability to enjoy wine and good company….tough!
Simon’s winemaker supper is booked separately with the Club office, always worth staying on for as the winemakers love sharing their love of their wines in a relaxed environment. So don’t feel intimidated, I repeat, no prior knowledge of any of the wines or wineries are required, just the ability to enjoy wine!
During the day, the winemakers will have been sailing, so they really do get a feel of Burnham and the Club.
