Squib Sailing 28-29 May 1 Jun 2022
A handful of Squibs made their mark over the weekend. Saturday saw four boats being led to the first mark by Guy Fawkes (Phil & Dave) only to select turn and hoist spinnaker at the wrong one. Two others, Rojo (Paul & Richard) and Brutus (Simon & Flynn) followed and it was only the correcting hail from Humphrey (Robert & Thomas) that saved the race. After several changes of lead over the town course, it was Rojo secured the victory by a boat length from Guy Fawkes and Humphrey, a benevolent third. It was great to see Rojo back to winning ways after a lengthy lay-up and rebuild.
Sunday’s race selected a special upriver course using Lands End as the windward mark. In the shifty NW breeze, Guy Fawkes built a comfortable lead only to discover that Lands End was out for maintenance. Fortunately Cliff had been laid so in a race when the rich got richer (or luckier) Guy Fawkes won from Rojo then Brutus.
