Squib Cheeseboard & Mike Flint

Squib Cheeseboard & Mike Flint 21 Apr 2022

Mike Flint and Cheeseboard

The Squibs returned to the river in full force over the Easter weekend with 12 boats turning out for the Rice & Cole Cheeseboard and 17 for the Mike Flint regatta.

After a short delay on the Friday competitors were treated to some champagne sailing in the sunshine before returning to the club for the all important cheeseboard and port. Congratulations to Micky and Alex in Spoof who took the win at this event.

A few sore heads the next day (an appropriate amount of port was drunk and dancing to the disco continued late into the night along with a conga through the dining room much to the amusement of those enjoying their Fish dinner!) and it was back out for the Mike Flint regatta. A change in format as 8 races were run from a committee boat over two days. On day 1, it was Jono Brown and Chris Agar in their newly painted black boat which took the lead ahead of Micky and Alex however it was all change on day 2 as Flynn Davies and Arthur Brown borrowed Robert Coyle’s Humphrey and went straight to the front of the fleet and mixed the results up a bit. Showing great consistency it was What’s the Story (Nic Tolhurst and Ross Corbett) who ultimately won the regatta. Micky and Alex held onto second place whilst Dave Hyde and Scarlett Anderson took a very well deserved third place.

Many thanks to everyone who made the two events so fantastic, especially the race teams and the club. This was the first event run by the new squib team led by Dan and a brilliant job was done by all! Looking forward, we have the Gold Cup in just over a week so a reminder to all to enter and fingers crossed for more champagne sailing!

Alex Porteous
