John Lewis Memorial 15th October
With all the talk, about the windy Forecast during the week, the John Lewis Trophy, went ahead, we had a half hour postponement and started at 1.30pm. There was a stiff breeze of 20 knots, gusting 25.
9 Squibs entered for the event, but two decided not to partake.
The course was set, start line RCYC, West Quay P, 11 P, 9P Three Laps.
Race one, was won Stalwarts by Micky Wright and Alex Porteous, followed by Ray Apthorp and Petru.
Dave Hyde and Gareth Heel, had a great race and won race two, closely followed by Dan Wastnage and Keith Gilmore.
The Trophy was up for grabs, it was to be decided between, three Boats, Micky helming Spoof, Ray Apthorp helming Slinky and Dan Wastnage, helming Heartbeat.
In the final race, Heartbeat had a great start and managed to hold off the opposition by spreading the distance on the final downwind leg.
Dan Wastnage helming Keith Gilmore’s Heartbeat, with Keith Crewing, won on countback to claim the Trophy.
The Trophy was presented at Dinner in the Evening by Commodore Phil Aspinal. “Does Dan regret selling Heartbeat”
As always Simon prepared a fabulous spread that was, enjoyed by all.
