Jimmy Starling Trophy Regatta 11 Jun 2016
After a windless morning Squibs had to wait for a light sea breeze on Saturday afternoon to start their series of races.
Once there was a ripple on the water the committee boat set the courses and they completed the Jimmy Starling regatta, hosted by the Burnham Sailing Club, over Saturday and Sunday.
The five race series saw five different race winners with Phil Aspinall and Howie Enkel in Guy Fawkes setting the pace with a win in race 1. But it was Surprise, helmed by Duncan Grindley with Adam Knights, also in their first major outing this season, who topped the leader board overnight after solid results.
In a break from Squib tradition, Duncan did not throw it away and secured his first major trophy on countback from Spoof (Micky Wright and Alex Porteous) with Guy Fawkes in 3rd place.
There were celebrations in the Club House not only for the victors but also for Jono Brown, crewed by Dad, who registered a first Squib race win for themselves and the Club Squib, Woody.
