The Club hosts the first area qualifier for the prestigious RYA Match Racing Championships and all are welcome to join in the fun.

Match Racing is like aquatic chess, combining the skills of boat handling and the tactics and rules of yacht racing.   It’s great fun and a good opportunity to hone your knowledge of the racing rules.  Many of the country’s top sailors started their sailing careers racing in this series.

The racing will be held in the clubs fleet of identical 707’s and is organised by our PRO, Edwin Buckley and his Team Phoebe race administration.

Competitors will be given a flight sheet at the briefing on Saturday morning setting out the races they will sail, their assigned boats and who they will sail against.  Experienced on the water umpires give immediate decisions and will be on hand after the racing to debrief competitors on what they observed throughout the day.  On Saturday evening there is an event dinner (no charge for competitors entered- family welcome to book) giving everyone the chance to socialise and discuss the events of the day.

The Notice of Race, SI’s and Entrance Form (online), together with other information about the event is all on the RYA website:  https://www.rya.org.uk/racing/keelboat-racing/match-racing/Pages/national-match-racing-series.aspx.

The Club has limited accommodation for those that require it and our bars and restaurants and other facilities will be open to competitors throughout the event.

We look forward to welcoming you at the event and if you have any enquiries please don’t hesitate to call the Club Office on 01621 782105.
