The RCODs’ time to shine… 22 Apr 2017
Following the brilliant 1st Super Saturday at the Club in the morning, the afternoon racing sadly wasn’t looking too good with only a hint of breeze across the river.
However, with a 2nd RCOD launched earlier in the week, Cormorant and Coriander were keen to sail, so as the starting sequence began, the breeze built slightly and with the weak tide quick progress was made around the short course over the whole river. The leading RBOD had found that dropping to the north shore that in most instances would be the right thing, it just didn’t pay and they lost three places. So, despite the spinnaker flying on Coriander the race finished, Cormorant 1st and Coriander 2nd.
On Sunday, the conditions were similar for the 1st of the RCOD Sunday series; again, only a very light Southerly wafted across the river before leaving the mooring, but to the joy of those afloat it built to a lovely 10 knots and by the time Cormorant reached Greenwood, there was a lovely beat on the top of the tide up the Roach.
The finish was extra special for the Cormorant team as she was helmed over the line by Flo (aged 6yrs) winning her 1st race ever in style. Flo was quick to ask where the other boats were, so we casually mentioned about a week away!! (another four RCODs are launching this week for the Bank Holiday series).
It was good to see the RCODs getting to the line to race, in what turned out to be lovely conditions on both days.
