RCODs at Whitsun Regatta 30 May 2016
This was the best turnout of the season so far, five RCODS came to the line on Saturday.
With Lynn away, Corsair stayed as an all girl team with visiting helms and Gina Ramsey showed the way off the start line. However, a slightly tight topping lift still rigged made the only difference in boat speed and pointing, these 81 year old ladies are very sensitive! The Apps – only recently launched and obviously benefiting from a spring in their step – showed a great turn of speed by sailing through everyone before risking themselves once too often inside the barges and kissing the mud a little too hard, well done Vince for jumping over!
Sunday we were down to three, this time Corsair led the charge again on the south bank with cruiser owner Sue King helming in her first RCOD race – a wind shift resulted in a tack for her off the shore into a foul tide, so helping those on the north shore, and the race began to fall into place. Vince had his first win in a boat to end a great day, and finally Monday….was it the forecast? But we were down to two; the Waples brothers took the bold decision before the start of one reef and white sails, and were in a tight dual from the start line right up to the Creeksea corner, nothing could separate them, once around, John, Corpo Santo, ducked to the south shore and was looking rather good and led over the water, but was unable to squeeze up to the Cliff buoy before Justin reached it having come from the north shore.
So, a great weekend’s racing… just a few more on the start line would make it even better. Overall: 3rd Corsair, 2nd Corpo Santo, and 1st Cormorant.
