RCODs at RCYC Regatta Week 9 Sep 2020
For the RCOD fleet the regatta was sailed in the spirit it was conceived, a true Corinthian enthusiasm and what a week it was. The quality of the sailing was matched only by the evening entertainment. From a quiz night where Andy Barr emerged as the dark horse, with a seemingly limitless knowledge of even the most obscure fact; to a croquet evening hosted by Fi and Geoff Bell, where Fi and Ant Law emerged as the victors. This was topped off by a Covid compliant drinks bash held in Sue Law’s beautiful back garden. With all that going on and golf at Creeksea on the windy days, there was barely time for racing.
But when the fleet made it out onto the water it was close racing – with the six entrants regularly changing places on all four days. Team Corposanto crewed by Mike Lewis and Rosemary Archer, with a guest appearance from Nick Bacon, emerged victorious on countback with the Cormorant team coming second. But it could have been so different – Martin Makey’s decision to take the south shore on day 2 robbed him of certain victory and when Corella, crewed by Teresa and Tim Wilkes and helmed by Ian Simons turned out mid week she stole line honours in two out of three races.
The club was beyond criticism and if someone said we should do it every year there would be resounding support from the RCODs.
