RCOD Regatta 30 May 2007
The Friday Fleet consisted of five RCODs, joined by two RBs. They enjoyed three short races in good winds and sunshine. Quartz took two, and Corinna one before an unfortunate incident with Corsair left her with a hole for immediate repair!
The Saturday Fleet was joined by Will Wallis in Coram and Peter Willoughby in Coriander. In the morning they explored the Roach under lowering skies and strengthening winds but in the afternoon they joined the points’ race start at the RB so that the guests could earn their usual points. The course was Canewdon in the rain.
The Sunday Fleet was off to Canewdon again. Ken found an uncharted rock at Black Point and attempted to explore the reef without scuba gear. Luckily for him, the weather had moderated, warm with intermittent sunshine, winds becoming quite flukey. Thanks to Roger Mant for returning him to the Club so promptly in the RIB, luckily stationed with Edwin in Committee Boat mode for another fleet, near Cliff.
On the social side, the Friday evening class dinner was delicious and an enjoyable chance to catch up with many old friends of the RCODs who had made the effort to arrange their visit to the area to coincide with the Regatta. Hugh Davies come down from Scotland and enjoyed the chance to helm Corsair again and Victor Prior crewed with Ken in Cormorant for a couple of days. The Club Summer party on the Saturday night was another great event with a large table of RCODites swelling the numbers. The weekend finished for us with the prize giving lunch in the Restaurant making the most of the superb view at high tide.
