RCOD Report 4 Oct 2023
Very high tides and a fickle south south westerly wind set the scene for challenging racing at the weekend. Three teams made the start with Coralie a bit behind due to gear failure. A quick repair and decisive tactics on the way to Cliff against the strongly ebbing tide soon gave Coralie the advantage, held to the finish line. Congratulations!
Two up Corinna fought to catch Coryphee but never stood a chance on the home leg with the tide. Good racing again in shorts weather!
It’s looking fine for the forthcoming weekend so we should continue to enjoy good end of season racing. Get to the start line if you can.
The club has posted an announcement about the passing of Hugh Davies, a stalwart of the RCOD fleet in the 70’s through to the 90’s. He raced no. 4 Corvette which is also sadly no longer with us. Apart from being class Secretary for many years he and his wife Sylvia are remembered by Anne Heasley for entertaining acts at the Christmas party. Those were the days.
