Training for the Cadet Worlds 30 Jul 2008
Since the final indicator we have been busy getting as ready as we possibly can for the World Championships. Three days’ training in Weymouth, followed by a further two days in Weymouth, followed by Flanders (for some) followed by the final two days at Grafham on 12th/13th July. All this, alongside passing (!?) GCSE and other exams, has kept life very hectic.
Continued mixed weather affected the time the team has been able to spend on the water – of all of these days, we lost the first and last day of training, the first due to a very strong gale blasting through Weymouth, and the last due to millpond conditions at Grafham; there were also other less than perfect days the team had to battle with.
Flanders was also a great experience which unfortunately William & Loni could not attend. Flanders this year had every possible weather condition seemingly available for us to sample. You will have seen the results for the team which were excellent; all four boats which attended were in the top six places. Congratulations to Joanna and Holly who won the event by one point, achieved with a win in the final race! George and Nick finished in 6th place.
On the whole, we have taken as much as we possibly could from the training period and Adam’s excellent training, and are looking forward to the Worlds. We hope that in Medemblik we will see fine performances from everyone in the GBR team, and our preparation there will start as soon as we arrive.
