Otter Week 2017 22 Aug 2017
Throughout last week the club was alive with excited youngsters enjoying their annual Otter Week with a packed schedule of sailing and socialising all helped along by some very favourable winds and a lot of warm sunshine.
Along with daily racing across a huge fleet of dinghies the highlights from this year included: the on water Treasure Hunt, raft building and racing (Otter style with specially made sails for the purpose), an ultra quick Long Distance Race, and a Fancy Dress Parade to end all others where Phil Aspinall and his Pond Group showed them all how it was done bringing home the trophy with an inspired display team of the Red Arrows!
Not in the original programme but added at the last moment was the hotly contested “Commodore’s Race” featuring the current Otter Commodore, Harry Phelps, along with 6 previous Otter Commodores – some dating back to the 1960s!
93 sailors and all their parents made for a packed clubhouse every day from 8am until well past bedtime and the Corinthian Otters would like to thank all of the RCYC staff for their hard work, support and assistance in the making of another fabulous Otter Week!
