Otter Cadet Open Meeting 2010 23 Jun 2010
When scheduling an open meeting in June you expect to be hosting a beautiful, balmy sail on the Crouch. NOT TRUE. The 19th June was grey and blustery with black clouds building and passing through in big rainy squalls, with the wind shifting in as the rainstorms passed through and provided some very challenging conditions.
The seventeen boats showed that most Cadet sailors are truly fearless and it was a great sight to see most spinnakers coming out of the bag on the downwind legs, providing fast and exciting reaches (and a few capsizes too). Although the conditions were not ideal, there were mostly huge smiles on the competitors’ faces.
Four races were completed with the front few places being hotly contested.
Finlay Cullender and Harvey Turner were commended for their fighting spirit despite a number of mishaps they were involved in.
However, the consistency of Alex and Lucy Corby meant that they won the event by one point from Katie Barr and Scarlett Anderson who also won the first girl and first Otter trophy. Molly Brown and Sasha Musto who, despite winning two races, managed a third place overall, one point behind Katie.
As well as the very valuable 1930s silver art deco overall first prize trophy, Alex Corby also won the prize for the first under 15s helm.
