Oppie Otters Had A Successful Winter 27 Mar 2010

Following a winter selection process I am please to report that four Otters have been picked to represent the Eastern Region at the Eric Twiname Championship in May, so many congratulations to Arthur Brown, Kathryn Hutton-Penman, Thomas Jayasekara and Chay Taylor.

We also have three Otters picked for the GBR squad sailing at the International event over Easter at Braassemermeer in Holland. Well done and good luck to Hamish Eckstein, Thomas Johnson and James Hutton-Penman.

Well done also to all those who took part in the IOCA Spring Championships in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago which saw 220 sailors from around the UK and Ireland competing. Cardiff is a difficult place to sail and my “performance of the weekend” award goes to Chay Taylor who sailed into 59th place and was pretty much top for his age group and above many older children – well done Chay. Well done also to Thomas Johnson, Hamish Eckstein, James and Kathryn Hutton-Penman and Sterling Taylor who all sailed well in difficult conditions.

Finally, well done to Flynn Davies who has been representing the Otters in the RS Tera National Squad. We had three Otters in this squad but Oppie duties of Hamish and James got in the way after the first weekend’s training leaving Flynn as our sole flag carrier!
