Squib Broadland Regatta 29 Mar 2022
Four Burnham Squibs took the trip to the Waveney and Oulton Broad YC. (Jono and Chris, Dan and Fred, Ray and Petru and Jason and Carl)
We were blessed with wonderful weather throughout the weekend.
Jono, Chris, Dan, and Fred went early on Friday morning to join in with the Friday River race. The Weather was glorious, Jono took line honours. We moored up and had our Picnic on the Lawn and then gingerly sailed back to the YC, to have more refreshments on the Balcony.
Saturday morning saw the start of the Regatta. We had four races and Race 3 saw Jono and Chris take line honours. The Wind was very shifty and extremely difficult to judge. Places could be lost very quickly. After Racing. After racing, we all gathered on the W&OBYC Balcony for refreshments on a beautiful Saturday’s afternoon!
Saturday Evening the Class attend a superb Meal at the RN&SYC. Class Captain Richard Sullivan addressed the fleet and Dan followed by thanking them, for a great Regatta and welcoming the competitors to the Gold Cup and East Coasts in Burnham.
Sunday the Fleets were separated to a gold and silver fleet. Jono was the only Burnham Boat in the Gold fleet. Jono and Chris’s best result on Sunday was a 2nd and they finished 4th Overall in the Gold Fleet.
Silver fleet, saw two Burnham Squibs taking line honours. Dan and Fred winning race 2 and Ray and Petru winning race 3. Winner of Silver fleet was tightly contested and Ray and Petru took 1st overall. Well done!
It was great to meet up with Richard and Stuart Bowers who took the long journey from Castle Cove YC (Weymouth) They recently purchased Squib, Tomcat. They informed me that they have 14 Squibs now at Weymouth and the fleet is growing!
