Caudle Cup 2022 27 Sep 2022
Bringing it home.
Introduced by Derek Caudle to foster good relations between the clubs, the Caudle Cup, the annual team race between the RBODs and the RCODs, has been a mainstay of the sailing calendar.
Over the years it has witnessed many an exciting outcome and this year was no different. In the third and final heat the RCODs managed to secure victory last Sunday 25th September and reclaim the cup to put it back in the trophy cabinet, a fitting result to help mark the club’s 150th anniversary year.
Martin Makey, Mark Wade and Trudi Churchward were one of the two teams sailing RCODs accompanied by John Waples, Rosemary Archer and Josh Coleman.
Representing us in in the RBODs were Dan Wastnage, Dave Shepherd and Dave Hyde, with Micky Wright, Alex Porteous and Paul Buckley in the other.
Three windward/leeward races across a strong tide proved testing conditions for the race management led by Andy Wise, but it provided great theatre for team racing tactics. After two years of losing to the RBOD fleet, revenge was sweet but we know its team leader Stephen Herring will be back next year keen to put his hands back on the cup. And a big thank you to the RBYC for hosting.
