Ann Barker 11 Aug 2022
Ann Barker
John, Philippa and Richard are sad to tell you that Ann died peacefully at home on Wednesday 27 July after a short illness.
Ann had been a member of the RCYC since 1954 having started sailing as a founder member of the Thorpe Bay Yacht Club. She started sailing in a Jewel, moving onto an ECOD then Hornets and Fireflys. She was especially popular with the larger helmsman and she was described by Robin Judah as a super lightweight super crew. This was especially useful when the RCYC team, on their first outing, won the Wilson Trophy which is the premier team racing event. Ann was part of the victorious team including Robin, Beecher Moore, Dick Pitcher and Tony Allen. Ann later spent 9 years sailing with Barry Stanford and Rob Campbell in their Dragon(s) Quicksilver.
Ann was also very involved in the running of the House Committee and served as Rear Commodore House.
Arrangements as follows:
Wednesday 17 August, 2pm at Creeksea Church, then after at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
If you will be attending, please email philippamunro@gmail.com or call Philippa on 07980 306038.
No flowers, thank you, but donations to Farleigh Hospice welcome.
