Otters Back in Training 1 Jun 2020
A Busy Week
After hearing last week that we were able to get back on the water at last, my sister Felicity decided she wanted to get out in the 29er with me and learn to crew as she moves out from the Optimist this summer.
Felicity and I learned to sail with Phil on the Pond and then went through the Otter River Groups. More recently both of us have been to on the national racing circuit – I race a 29er with a friend from Optimist days and Felicity plans to do the same this year. At large events we often bump into other Otters on Tour including Ben Hutton Penman, Charlie Bacon and Angus Beale.
It has been very boring being stuck ashore and at home for so many weeks. Meanwhile, a lot of events we were looking forward to have been cancelled. Frustratingly that includes the 29er Worlds which were to be held at Weymouth and the 29er Europeans which were going to be in Denmark. It is a similar situation with the Optimists.
Fortunately, this week the weather has fully cooperated and Felicity and I have managed to get out for a few days of training in perfect winds.
Thank you very much to the Otter Committee for allowing us to use the Highfield RIB as a safety boat during the week, it has allowed us to do some useful training – ready to get back into racing with our usual teams… whenever that may be and it would not have been possible without this!

Flo and Felicity had some high – and low – points.
