Flying Fifteen News 1 Nov 2019
So for the Flying Fifteen Worlds in Dublin Bay, swap in the last of the Flying Fifteen Northern Traveller Series and Notts County!!!
Notts County, a previous Club of the year, ticks all the boxes for close racing, the Lake is certainly small, and with 22 boats the boat handling and staying out of the traffic was the key to the w/e.
Saturday the wind was light and flicking 20 degrees, so with no tide, tacking was frenetic , and the execution therof was vital in the light puffs.
At the end of the 1st day, Waples/McKellar were lying 6/22 of the boats, not starring, but hanging in there.
On Sunday the wind had increased to 10/15 knots and was straight up and down the Lake, a real plus as this allowed the RO to use the length of the lake, the courses were back to 3 marks, as opposed to the 8 marks for all of Saturday. Two races sailed, our form had returned, a 1st & 2nd resulted in 2nd equal overall, but 3rd by count back. Jackie was 1st girl.
Meanwhile Chris Waples, sailing at one of the dedicated ‘Pennant’ w/e’s at Hayling Island Sailing Club, ( ie take a Club Super Saturday and double it to include a Sunday too) scooped 4 firsts in his Flying Fifteen.
