WoW 11 Jun 2025
Women on Water (affectionately known as WoW) has been spearheaded by Justin Waples, with the support of Commodore Mary Makey, with the aim of offering women (and girls) the chance to learn to sail in a relaxed environment.
“The club has been keen to develop a WoW group for a while,” said Justin. “Its principal purpose is to give ladies the chance to learn how to sail, at whatever level, in a supportive and fun way. Everyone is welcome, from mums of our newest Otters to club members who haven’t made it out on to the water for whatever reason. It’s a great opportunity to have a go without any pressure.”
WoW is open to members and non-members of the Royal Corinthian. Sessions will be held on Friday mornings, with the first planned for June 13th. Already one-and-a-half 707s have been filled with eager new crew mates who will be under the pupillage of volunteer instructors.
“The RYA has identified that the gender split in sailing is approximately 58% male to 42% female and therefore supports Women on Water initiatives,” added Justin. “We have many fantastic women and young lady sailors at the Corinthian but would love to have more so we’re really hoping the WoW group will prove successful and, ultimately, become an integral part of the club.”
The WoW sessions will run on Friday mornings, 10am to 12pm. Members are £12.50 and non-members £16 per session. Advance booking is required HERE.
