The Cruisers’ Eagling Memorial Trophy Race took place on Sunday morning . Only two boats came to  the start line, Trinco with Peter Hooper and David Corr, and Ningaloo with Mick Hill, Ross Corbett and Simon Sanders.  A bit of a David and Goliath race with one of the largest and one of the smallest boats in the fleet against each other.

The start was off the RBYC line as part of the Sunday morning race start sequence and in a brisk south-westerly breeze the boats set off down river for a course of Holliwell, Wallaseaness, Holliwell, Wallaseaness, Pinto, finish on RBYC line.

With shifting wind gusting up to 23knots and a foul tide, beating into the Roach to get round Wallaseaness proved to be a challenge. Starting the first beat up from Holliwell Trinco had managed to stay in contact with Ningaloo, but as Ningaloo started their second beat up to Wallaseaness they could see that Trino had still not rounded the buoy for the first time.  From Pinto Ningaloo managed to make it all the way home on one tack, but by the time Trinco rounded Pinto the wind had shifted more westerly and they had to tack several times to get home.

Ningaloo completed the race in 1 hour 40 minutes 30 seconds, corrected time 1 hour 50 minutes 34 seconds, with Trinco finishing after 2 hours 23 minutes 25 seconds, corrected time 2 hours 5minute 42 seconds.  On this occasion Goliath had the upper hand and congratulations to Mick and crew for retaining the Eagling Memorial Trophy.
