Squib Mini Series 2022 16 Aug 2022
Last Saturdays mini series was a new introduction to the Squib Calendar, the Elite fleet joined us, it was a great sailing day with perfect conditions. It seemed to work really well and it was lovely to see everyone being together and enjoying a wonderful curry after our windward leeward racing.
We were blessed with Sunshine and a good wind direction.
There were two new Boats in the Squib Fleet, Nick and Gavin in their newly purchased Atalanta, Adam and ‘Otter’ Lucy Prior in Festina Lente.
Edwin set the course by the Old Pile House start line.
There were 4 back to back races, with the Elites starting first with a longer Windward Mark set for them. The Elite fleet were well behaved and didn’t seem to have any issues re having boats over the line at the start. 😁
Sadly the same could not be said for the squib fleet – notably our commodore and the class captain (me), weren’t behaved and were shown the U flag serval times by the race officer!
The event was hotly contested between Slinky sailed by Ray and Petru and Black Pig sailed by Micky and Alex – with Slinky taking the win by just 1 point!
The comments afterwards from the competitors of both fleets were very encouraging, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and requested for more events like this next year! Obviously, the weather helped, as it was Champagne Sailing!
Our thanks go to Edwin and his committee boat team for running a well organised stream line event.
Also thanks to Simon the chef and his team for another fabulous curry.
The event was kindly sponsored, by someone who wants to remain anonymous and the Roger Tolhurst Trophy, will be presented at the end of the season.
This will now, be firmly positioned in the Squib Calendar for years to come! RIP
We look forward to Burnham Week and hope we can have much of the same.
Please make sure that all Squibs are entered.
