Squib Cosens Cup with Prizegiving Dinner 8 Nov 2023
The Cosens Cup is the last Burnham squib Sailing event on the 2023 Calander.
It was well attended with 8 Boats competing for the Trophy.
There were 3, short races set in front of the Club, I am told it was a great spectator event to be watched from the warmth of the club.
Race 1 was won by Ray and Malcy sailing Nemesis. They had a great start, starting to leeward of the fleet, they reached the mark first, thus having the overlap and led the race from then on.
Races 2 and 3 were won by Micky and Chris. On both these races, they had great Mark rounding’s, which gave them opportunities to pass boats.
It was Micky and Chris who won the event, closely followed by Steve Hall and Dave Hyde who recorded three, second places, only to lose by one point.
All Burnham Squibbers congregated upstairs for the Annual 2023 Prizegiving Dinner.
The Royal Corinthian did us proud with a delicious meal and great service.
Torress the Bull was presented by Phil Aspinall for those Faux Pas over the 2023 season. It was very well executed with Audio and Screen. At one point, I thought it was going to be myself, but no thankfully, it went to Carl Anderson, for so many errors, going aground, falling over and more!
Congratulations go to all the Prize winners and a special mention goes to Hannah Harden for winning the Packard Trophy.
One notable achievement of the year must go to Jonno Brown and Chris Agar for winning the Squib Nationals in Weymouth this year. Well done!
On the whole a great 2023 season for the Burnham squibs, we look forward to 2024, where Burnham will be holding the East Coast Squib Championships at the end of May.
