Squib Cosens Cup and Prize-giving 2022 8 Nov 2022
The Cosens Cup was the last Squib sail of 2022.
The triangular course was set, it could be viewed from inside the Club and I was told later it was a great spectacle to watch!
We were very lucky with the weather, as soon as we stepped on board, the rain stopped.
Race 1, got under way and it was the new boat to Burnham, Zoom, helmed by Dan Wastnage and crewed by Charlie Mathews, who had a great start and managed to slip away and take line honours.
Race 2, was pretty much the same, with another good start by Zoom, who managed to lengthen their lead, to again take line honours.
Race 3, was not to be the same. Scarlett Anderson took the helm of Dave Hyde’s ‘Sophie’ and smashed the start and led all the way, to take her first win in a Squib. Well done Scarlett.😁 (see picture)
Overall, it was Ray and Petru who won the Cosens cup, their consistency paid off, with two seconds and a third, beating Dan and Charlie by 5 points.
Congrats to them.
Later in we all arrived at 6pm to be greeted with the Squib Cocktail. The AGM was well attended and positive issues were raised. The Squib Calendar for 2023 has already been organised and future of the beloved Squib looks very healthy.
Prize giving Dinner was delicious and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves, dancing to DJ Karn.
I very much look forward to seeing you all again in 2023 and may I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy Christmas and new year!
Dan Wastnage.
