Squib & 707 Dinner 7 Nov 2015
With no sailing during the day, the squibbers managed to stay sensible until their AGM & prize-giving dinner on Saturday evening. The excellent four course meal was followed by Duncan Grindley's final presentation as class captain and a hand over to Phil Shanahan as the Squib class captain going forward. Whilst most of the silverware ended up on the Hutchings' table, there was generous applause for Jools Briggs winning his first ever trophy and Brian Tucker winning his first in many years.
The 707s joined the Squibs for the evening and their only award was the irreverent paddle awarded to John Lewis for regularly going aground in his boat, Baby Beluga. For the squib fleet equivalent, Torres the Bull, there was a clear winner in Phil Aspinall for a catalogue of groundings, failures and misdemeanour's throughout the season. Fortunately, his acceptance speech was far shorter than normal.
Despite the late evening with dancing to DJ Karn the Squib lifting team were out in force on Sunday morning to retrieve 12 Squibs, well in advance of the 2 minutes' silence.
