RCYC receives a gift… 31 May 2013
RCYC was pleased to welcome Peter Dunlop, a long-standing member of the Royal Singapore Yacht Club, who came bearing a gift. The gift was a splendid book, of which he is the author, “Three Burgees”, a History of the Republic, formerly Royal Singapore, Yacht Club. His intention is to present a copy to a number of reciprocal clubs (of which RCYC is one) from the Deben and Royal Corinthian in the east via London and the Solent to the Royal Fowey and Royal Cornwall in the west.
The book is a handsome volume, fully illustrated in colour, starting in 1826, with the first mention in the press of a Singapore Yacht Club through its revival in 1919 and the merger with the Singapore Rowing Club right up to the present day.
Peter is the book’s author but drew heavily on the work of a post graduate history student at the National University of Singapore as well as his time sailing at each of the three RSYC locations in Singapore as a teenager and as an adult. His intimate knowledge of the club is immediately obvious as he turns the pages of his book. He is clearly proud of his efforts and rightly so – every yacht club in the land needs a member as dedicated as Peter Dunlop…
RCYC is delighted to accept the gift.
