RCYC Charity Regatta 2012 6 Aug 2012
The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club chose to support the Rarer Cancers Foundation at their annual charity regatta.
Forty boats entered across a number of fleets, including the Dragons, RCODs Squibs, 707s, RBODs, Elites and a Flying Fifteen who were all expecting to take part in four races over the weekend.
The Saturday proved windless and racing was cancelled- the Sunday offered wind but extreme conditions with a hailstorm, challenging to competitors especially the warm-blooded Antipodeans on RBOD Simonetta who didn’t know the golden rule ‘never go afloat without your oilskins’. As Will Dallimore said, ” Maybe this doesn’t apply in Sydney but they now know it does here in the UK.

” This is a good place to salute the four RBODs who appeared on the line on the Sunday after one of the biggest parties the RBYC has ever organised!

“Lack of racing did not prevent the sailors supporting the regatta party on Saturday night. James Hearn entertained the diners with the Commodore proving to be a very ‘good sport’ during the evening party. Sunday provided ‘champagne’ sailing conditions – well at least for the first race.
All classes completed Race One on Sunday but the ensuing storm and hailstorms meant very few boats managed to start and finish Race two.
The raffle winners were announced during the afternoon’s prize giving and the charity would like to thank the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, the Race Committee, the staff and all the members of the club and the sailors for taking part and helping to raise £1740 for the charity by hosting the event.”
