RCYC Celebrates Burns’ Night 23 Jan 2016
Black Tie, sequins and a splash of tartan heralded another Burns' Night at the RCYC. Steve Jones presided over another evening of music, dance and delicious food.
We were piped upstairs to enjoy smoked mackerel terrine and then the haggis, addressed and dispatched by Steve with the assistance of his trusty shian-dubh. This was followed by roast beef and trio of deserts, topped with sparklers. Steve and Simon raced in a carve-off of the beef although the tie break question did seem a little skewed in Steve’s favour! Thanks to Simon and his team for a memorable meal.
During dinner Steve serenaded us with his rendition of My love is like a red red rose, and Claire Reid read John Anderson my Jo.
After a piped Happy Birthday to Annie who shares the day with Burns she and Arthur gave us the Immortal Memory. Ant Law followed with the Toast to the Lassies and Sue Law responded on her sisters behalf with an epic poem and honours were declared about even.
The evening ended with songs and Scottish dancing. Thank you to Tony, to Pat for the lovely table decorations and to Mandy Wade, organizer extraordinaire.
