RCOD’s in Burnham Week 9 Sep 2026
The RCODs enjoyed a superb Burnham Week this year. 9 out 10 of our afloat fleet entered, including Rob Campbell for the MidWeek and final Saturday in chartered Coram. Corella was sailed by Colette Bacon at first weekend and Nick Bacon sailed her in the St Matthew’s Cup – winning the RCODs and helping the RCYC to win overall. Well done!
Justin Waples in Cormorant demonstrated a strong winning streak by collecting all the first place silverware. Congratulations! Paul Buckley and team in Coryphee were second at the weekend and Martin Makey and team in Corinna were second overall. Racing was very close most of the time. 4 boats ( Cormorant Corinna Corpo Santo and Coryphee) had a very close and exciting race on Thursday in winds gusting 27 knots and over 20 knots most of the time. RCODs under reef proved to be very manageable in strong winds and the fact that none received any damage proved how well maintained the 91 year old boats are.
Not only did we enjoy superb and varied racing, the class also enjoyed great social events. Our formal class dinner on Bank Holiday Monday was attended by 69 fans of the RCOD and a similar number supported the Croquet and Pizzas evening at Geoff and Fi’s home on Thursday. Thank you for hosting a most hospitable evening and well done Phil and Pauline for winning the croquet.
Thank you to the organisers of Burnham Week and to the staff of the RCYC for providing top quality food and service. Also a big thanks to Pete, Rice & Cole and volunteers for helping to get our boats scrubbed and Adam for fixing things which needed fixing!
The season hopefully continues to the end of October so I look forward to seeing you on the river during the autumn.
