Progress Report on the Crossrail/RSPB Wallasea Project 20 Apr 2011
Following articles in the local press, it has been re-assuring to receive a report from Mark Wakelin, the Harbour Master, who is able to give us the facts.
Mark’s report is dated 25th March and covers three important areas.
Firstly, the completion of documents between Crossrail/RSPB and the Crouch Harbour Authority (CHA). These contracts give RSPB a binding option to take a lease of the land for the unloading jetty, and allowing CHA to order (subject to Crossrail’s approval) the new navigation buoys.
Progress with the Unloading Pontoon concerning Contract 806 has been let to Messrs Bam Nuttall with the expectation that the unloading facility should be installed for use by 30th September.
Nuttalls have been made aware of the importance locally of Burnham Week, hence have only been allowed a small working area which may be marked by buoys. Vessels and barges may only work outside this area with notice and the Harbour Master’s permission.
