Henley came to Burnham… 21 Jun 2009
Henley came to Burnham and brought on a burgeoning of blazers at the annual Summer Party. Some were authentic and some were contrived, some were hired and some were obviously relics of a sporty golden youth but all added to the charm of the evening and that was just the Gentlemen!
The Ladies played their part, some in authentic Thirties style outfits, others with the elegant tiny hats of the Noughties; the only authentic missing accoutrement was the elegant cigarette holder!
The entertainment was provided by jazz chanteuse, Heather Simmons, accompanied by Ted Beament, formerly pianist to the late Humphrey Lyttleton. Together they provided the atmosphere, performing in the Lounge Bar whilst the guests enjoyed canapés and swapped stories of rowing blue achievement or how they obtained their blazers, and followed us to the dining room where they helped the dinner to go with a swing.
On completion of their programme, the music and dancing continued to ‘Fraud’ until the small hours.
Successful evenings are always the results of hard work behind the scenes. Our thanks go to Marion Aspinall, Sarah Hastwell and all those they roped in to assist.
