GMTV Weather reporting…. 24 Jul 2008
Members who check the early weather forecasts on GMTV were surprised to discover the Outside Broadcast unit relaying the weather news from the end of the RCYC pontoon.
The GMTV weather girl, Andrea McLean, perched on Papa Romeo, forecast that the 24th July was likely to be the hottest day of the summer so far.
It was all organised very quickly the day before. GMTV phoned the RCYC office and suggested the idea; Les White could supply the necessary boat and Papa Romeo was moored on the hammerhead, ready for an early start. The OB unit arrived at 05:00 hours and the first broadcast went out at 06:00.
Fortified with coffee and Les’s renowned bacon-butties, the team repeated the performance at 07:00 and again at 08:00 and 09:00.
By that time Andrea was off to her next programme, scheduled later the same day. Busy lady!
The team was delighted with the venue, the sunshine and thought it was almost Mediterranean…
