Finishing Touches 29 Oct 2013
The season started this year with major building works in progress as the installation of a lift together with alterations to both the ground and the first floor needed completion. It was not practical to continue the decoration of the exterior once the season was in full swing so the completion is now underway.

This involves scaffolding at either end of the building, a scaffolding tower round the flagpole and a moveable pontoon under the balcony to complete painting round the portholes.
Painters working on the flagpole need a good head for heights…
It is interesting to record that Tiny Mitchell acquired a pair of flagpoles when the fixtures and fittings were sold off after the closure of the Festival of Britain in 1951. One of them was installed here in Burnham and the twin to our flagpole is, as you might expect, to be found at our sister club in Cowes.
On Monday 4th November there was an exceptionally high tide, so high that the pontoon floated almost against the underside of the balcony itself – not much painting done until the tide went down.
