Cruiser AGM / Carvery Lunch / Prizegiving 8 Nov 2022
The Cruiser Fleet held their Annual General Meeting at the club on Sunday at 12:15.
There was a good turnout of members.
Steve Barham gave a full report of the year’s activities and was thanked for his excellent year four-year tenure as Class Captain. Steve’s wife Katherine was thanked for her support to Steve and her own contribution to Class events during this period. Tom Keeper was elected unopposed as the new Cruiser Class Captain, and Sheena Cosens was thanked for her long service as Class Treasurer and for agreeing to continue in the post.
The meeting was followed by a superb Carvery Lunch which in turn was followed by stories of the season woven into the presentation of Trophies.
The Eagling Memorial Trophy was presented to Jack Page who helmed ‘Coco’ to victory on the 1st of October. ‘Coco’ also won the ‘Missing Link’ trophy for biggest blunder of the season racing the downwind leg of the Swallowtail Race with a “reefed spinnaker” due to not realising that the ‘Snuffer’ was only raised two thirds of the way to the mast head.
James Napier and Corinna Gardiner won the ‘ Malista Cup’ (best long cruise) with their classic timber yacht ‘Tamarisk’, for their determined three day sprint in challenging weather from Burnham to Chatham, Chatham to St Katharine Dock and St Katharine Dock back to Burnham during September. The ‘Malista Salver’ (Captain’s prize for cruising) was presented to Paul Van Damme and David Page.
