Condolences 2 Aug 2022
I am deeply saddened to advise that Roger Tolhurst passed away peacefully at home on 2nd August after a short illness.
A member since 1986, Roger along with his wife Liz, were stalwarts of the Squib fleet for over 20 years. They raced Sroda and soon had son Nic “under the cuddy” during racing. Nic went on to race Sroda with his partner Sarah and maintain the Tolhurst involvement with the squib fleet to this day.
Roger was a member and supporter of both the RCYC and the BSC, his sharp wit and laconic style encouraging both harmony and rivalry between the clubs.
Roger’s hockey exploits for Tillingham Hockey Club are less known. His reverse stick passing years ahead of the current game and his ability to smoke and shower, at the same time, legendary.
Even lesser known is that Roger introduced me to both Squibs and the RCYC during one Burnham Week in the 1990s, something that changed my life forever.
My condolences go to Liz and Nic plus the whole Tolhurst family.
