Cadet Inland Championships at Grafham Water 20 Apr 2009
There were ninety entrants for the Inlands this year, which were held over two days.
The first day was bright and blustery and produced three different winners. Katie and Emily Kinver from Exe Sailing Club won the first race, Arthur Henderson and Matt Currell from Salcombe Yacht Club won the second and Hugo and Guy Pullen from Parkstone won the third, but through consistency with 13 points Hattie Eyre and I were over night leaders for the Otters.
The second day was overcast and breezy with the first race going to Sophie Dingwall and Chris Sycamore CO, and the second was won by the Page brothers from Waldringfield. The discard came into play after the fifth race and going into the final race of the championship,
Will Kennedy and Rhos Hawes led with twelve points.
Will Kennedy and Rhos Hawes went on to win the Championships with a total of fourteen points. Although the Champions were sailing under the flag of Fisher’s Green, Will is also a Corinthian Otter.
Overall the event was a big success, especially because it was the first time to be held at Grafham and not Rutland as in previous years.
Harriet and I ended in 7th position and Katie Barr and Arthur Brown were 19th. All the helms and crews in the top seven positions were members of the UKNCCA National Squad or the RYA National Junior Squad.
