BW2016 considered a great success! 6 Sep 2016
Burnham Week was a great success and enjoyed better weather than previous years which was an added bonus for those seeking to reinvigorate this wonderful regatta.
Two special mentions should be made for Team RCYC comprised of David Hill in Spangle and Andy Prestwich in Otra Vez, and their respective crews for winning the team trophy for classes 5 & 6.
Helmsman of the week across all fleets was our own Robert Coyle for his string of successes in his Squib crewed by Marc Rawinsky and Tracy Coyle, thereby winning all 3 major trophies in the Squib fleet. Robert's success is even more impressive when you consider that the Squibs were bucking the trend by increasing their numbers to the high teens and early twenties.
In the increasingly competitive RCOD fleet, John Waples Corpo Santo won the weekend and Steve Rands Cormorant victorious in mid-week and trophy day.
The Dragons spread their awards across Poul-Richard Hoj-Jensen in Wish, Clive Page in PageBoy X1 and Peter Marchant/KatieCole in Beauty & the Beast.
In the 707s, the spoils were shared between Paul Gray in Beaver Hunter and Neil Connelly in Racehorse.
It was former Otters who secured the Fast Handicap dinghy awards via Jamie Waterhouse (470) and James Hutton-Penman (RS Aero) and current Otter James Pitcher (RS Feva) was victorious in the slow handicap.
All in all, the RCYC seemed to be the place to be throughout the week with a buzz of laughter, the fragrance of summer fizz and the best food in town.
