Burns’ Night 24 Jan 2010
Burns’ Night once again lived up to its reputation as one of the most enjoyable Club evenings in the Programme.

The Lounge Bar resounded to strains of a Piper playing in the Entrance Hall and to the excited chatter of diners as they greeted one another. Proceeding to the Dining Room the Selkirk Grace was given and fifty members and guests sat down to an excellent dinner of traditional fare prepared by Chef Dean.
The dinner started with Cock-a-Leekie Soup.

The Haggis and Saltire were then piped in with due ceremony and the Address Tae the Haggis was given in a fitting manner by Commodore Stuart Munro. The Haggis was served with the traditional neeps and tatties and a tot of ‘Grouse’. The main course of Roast Fore Rib of Scottish Beef was paraded in with pipes and National Flags.
The Toast to the Lassies was given in the customary sarcastic manner by Edwin Buckley and the Response from the Lassies was delivered with withering pity by Pat Buckley. After a dessert of Cheesecake with Drambuie, Mick Hill gave The Immortal Memory – with acknowledgements to Steve Jones- in a most entertaining way.
After the dinner many were pleased to join in with the Scottish dancing, although some did (could?) not and the night was later rounded off by some, by then, rather incoherent singing of Scottish ballads.
All went home replete and happy.
Thanks are due to all who contributed to making it such a successful event, not least those members and guests who attended.
