Burnham Salutes the Jubilee 5 Jun 2012
After the miserable weather on the Sunday, the evening was so still on the Monday that the clouds were perfectly reflected in the river as we gathered on the first floor balcony of RCYC to take part in Burnham’s salute to the Jubilee.
The beacon was due to be fired up at 22:00 hrs, followed by sound signals first from Burnham Sailing Club, then working along the riverbank to Crouch Yacht, Royal Burnham Yacht Club, finishing at the Corinthian. Matthew Anthony gave a prolonged blast on the electric horn in the race box, and the gunners completed it with a three gun salvo, timed to perfection.
Our duties satisfactorily completed, we enjoyed the atmosphere of the river, before disappearing to Brenda’s for a cheeky glass of wine or two…
