Bart’s Bash 2015 20 Sep 2015
This years’ Bart’s Bash, for day boat classes, involved a combined start from the club line with each class then sailing its own course. This formed part of the Autumn Sunday Series.
A light breeze and sunshine was the backdrop to an easy mornings racing which started with the last of the ebb tide and finished with the first of the flood. Short courses were set; this was welcomed by the hardy souls who had started the day at Malcolm and Jackie’s wedding celebrations!
Bill Wright and Justin Waples led the 707 and RCOD fleets from the off and were both convincing winners, the only dampener on their achievement was that they were the only members of their fleets to turn out.
The Dragons were led round the first mark at Holliwell by Martin Makey in Ganador, followed by Ian Gray in Scorpio and Rob Campbell in Beauty and The Beast. Makey and Gray took the South Shore back to Pinto whilst Campbell took the north shore and moved to the front where he stayed until the finish.
Micky Wright in Spoof was last off his mooring but first off the line in the Squibs race, he started towards the north end of the line but reached the south shore quickly. Wright said the move started whilst he was rolling a fag but as it was working he continued and built up a good lead by the first mark at Greenward. Micky was followed Simon Griffin in Brutus and Duncan Grindley in Surprise. There was a battle for first Squib in the silver fleet with a tidal gate at Holliwell ensuring Electra, David Mellard, stayed in front.
