A big day for the Otters 4 Nov 2020
Saturday was Otters End of Seasons Brass Monkey race, but as seems the norm in 2020 the wind had other ideas. But Martha Waples, on her last day as Commodore had a Plan B of a pumpkin carving competition to ensure there was a good group present for the announcements following on from the Otters Virtual AGM.
Otter President Judy Waples made the trip to the club in what turned out to be horrific rainy conditions to announce the new Otter Flag Officers. These are
Commodore –
Milly Drew
Vice Commodore – James Ball
Rear Commodores –
Phoebe Barr
and George Rashbrook.
We hope they enjoy their time as Flag officers and hopefully more normal Otter sailing and events in 2021.
Saturday also was Justin Waples last day as Chairman of the Otters after 7 years
During that time, he has supported 7 Commodores, numerous Flag Officers and close to 200 sailors plus many sayings but they key one was “it’s all about the memories” so among a few gifts he was presented with a binder of photos, written memories and thank you notes from Otters past and present and parents.
Justin also received the famous and rare Black Otter pin from Vice President Rachael Therlfall for his commitment to the Otters whilst an Otter and since then as a parent.
I personally want to say, and to speak for so many parents and members of the RCYC, in thanking Justin for his efforts and guidance to the Otters during this time. It was really good that so many people contributed to his gifts and took some time to be at the club on Saturday to say thank you to him, and of course hear the new flag officers announced.
I look forward to taking on the role as Chairman and I hope we are able be able to offer plenty Otter sailing and fun events in 2021.
