2015 Marco Polo Pursuit Race and Laying Up supper 24 Oct 2015
The traditional end of season weekend featured sunshine and light winds which bodes well for those who will be sailing for the next two months.
All fleets were represented and there was a reaching start for the 21 competitors in the Club pursuit race. All eyes were on Otter Commodore Scarlett, our spring pursuit winner and expected to plane away to victory in her RS200. However, tradition prevailed and the finish saw the clock and thereby the Squibs beating a pack of marauding Dragons. Winners, Robert Coyle and Marc Rawinsky in Humphrey were presented the Marco Polo Trophy later in the evening at the Laying-Up Supper.
The 80 guests at the supper enjoyed the traditional Steak 'n Kidney pud and then relaxed through the traditional toasts and the Rear Commodore Sailing's less traditional review of the ups and downs of the sailing season. The guests applauded Wendy Eagling accepting her honorary membership and the announcement of Judy Waples' RYA lifetime contribution award. The evening culminated in a standing ovation for Edwin Buckley on being awarded the RYA Regional award for his outstanding contribution to race management.
