October Dragon Mini Series 22 Oct 2016
Five Dragons got together on Saturday for a late start for the last mini-series of the season. Edwin got the first start underway at 1.00 p.m. as scheduled with the course laid in the mouth of the Roach. Despite the small numbers, the light and fluky wind soon spread the fleet right across the course with it becoming apparent that the tide was much less important than wind shifts.
Race 1 was an indication of the boats to watch with the win going to Beauty and the Beast followed by Scorpio, then Avalanche. The second race followed very promptly with the first three boats doing position switch with Avalanche first, Beauty and the Beast second and Scorpio in third. Hat Trick decided to head to the bar early at that point, so the fleet dropped to four. Hands Off had an excellent third race at the front of the fleet, eventually finishing in third behind Scorpio, with Avalanche achieving their second first for the day.
The final race finished to a serenade of Happy Birthday to Ian from the committee boat as Scorpio won the race followed by Avalanche and Beauty and the Beast. It was then back to balloons, birthday cake and bubbles in the club to celebrate Ian’s 70th and the Wade family’s overall victory for the day. The Dragon fleet would like to say a big thank you to Edwin and Team Phoebe for all their race management this year, and particularly for managing to get Saturday’s four races in and the fleet back without the need for navigation lights.
