Last Dragon Mini-series of 2015 18 Oct 2015
It was the last mini-series of the season for the Dragons and looking out from the club house we were beginning to think that we might not get under way. But as we made it down to the Roach the wind picked up nicely and the sun came out, what more could you ask for.
With a fleet of seven, the first two races provided some exciting battles on the Roach up to the Crouch. The wind was changeable, never knowing which shore to take to give you the right lift.
Mark and Mandy Wade, with their son James in Avalanche, won the first two races followed by Ian Gray, René Nel and Alex Burnett in a close second aboard Scorpio. The exchanges down the field were equally fought with Beauty and the Beast, Flame Again, Hands Off (just two up), Seafire and Ganador all trading places.
As the wind moved to the East the racing moved back into the Crouch, it was time for lunch and when racing resumed it was all change in the rankings. Scorpio won the next two races with many places being traded throughout the fleet. Seafire with David Crabb, Simon Howard and Roy Roberts had a storming third race whilst Beauty and the Beast, helmed by Tim Tavinor, took advantage of the lee bow effect to cut right across the river into fourth.
It was a great day of racing for all and roll on March when we can do it all again.
