Dragon Mini Series 16 Apr 2016
After Friday’s torrential downpours, Saturday morning was cold and grey, but at least dry for the first four race mini series in the Dragon calendar. Eight dragons headed down toward the mouth of the Roach, where the westerly wind allowed the windward leeward course to be set in the Crouch initially. However, with the wind flicking toward the north, a lunch break was called after the second race to allow Edwin and his team to shift the course. The mini series saw plenty of close quarter racing, a few port-starboard incidents, and even a missed spreader mark which contributed to a few dizzy crew and helms.
The results were a mixed bag, with the first race won by Scorpio and the second by Quicksilver VI. Avalanche (with a family team of Mark, Mandy and James) then won the third and fourth races, giving them the series one point ahead of Quicksilver VI (Rob Campbell, Tim and Teresa Wilkes) with Danish Blue (Poul Hoj Jensen, Andrew Norden and Alison Hall) in third. As always, a big thank you to Edwin and his team for running the racing.
