Dragon Easter Regatta 21 Apr 2022
Friday 15th – Sunday 17th April 2022
‘We couldn’t have wished for better’, was the prevailing sentiment following a wonderful event sailed in beautiful weather.
Courses were set just to the east of the moorings, except the first race on the third day when fickle winds and a building flood took us to the Jubilee area of the Roach.
Racing was competitive to say the least, with the first five races of the eight-race series all having different winners.
The event was not settled until the final mark of the final race, resulting in two teams on equal points with a double count-back to the highest number of seconds determining the winner, “Quicksilver VI” (Rob Campbell, Penny Anderson, Jonathan Hill & Matt Walker) ahead of “Beauty & The Beast” (Peter Marchant, Katie Cole & Andrew Norden).
It was wonderful to welcome a visitor from the Medway, “Fit Chick” (Chris Grosscurth & Emma York, joined by RCYC’s Harriet Norden), who were amongst the race winners.
The social side was lively with excited chat in the bar after racing, a fish supper on the Friday night and a superb dinner on Easter Sunday.
Thanks all round to so many, but naturally to Class Captains Ian & Gerry Gray, Race Officer Edwin Buckley and his great Team Phoebe, to RCYC staff for looking after us ashore but probably most of all to the weather gods.
An extra thank you goes to WetWorks who donated prizes. 1st day prize- won by Still Crazy, 2nd day – won by Fit Chick, 3rd day- won by Dublin Bay.
