Campbell leads in the Prince Philip Cup 3 Jan 2014
Rob Campbell is celebrating the New Year with, you’ve guessed it, Dragon racing in Oz, where he is competing in the 2014 Australasian Championship for the Prince Philip Cup.
After the first race, he is the overnight leader. However, here he writes of the Ted Baker Series of three races, a warm-up event before the main attraction.
This is his report:–
First racing was yesterday, the Ted Albert series, consisting of three races, a precursor to the Prince Philip Cup that starts today. Wind was circa 12 to 18 knots, very variable in both strength and direction. We scored 12, 7 and OCS. However we were happy as we have good speed. The secret is getting the first beat right!
The first two races we went the wrong way and ended up at the first mark in the last three. The rest of the time we were picking up places.
The last race, we got to the windward mark 2nd and gained the lead on the downwind.
For the rest of the race we kept going away and won by well over a minute, only to discover the bad news when we crossed the line.
Optimistic for PPC!
