Super Saturday Dinghy Series 23 Apr 2016
The RCYC in conjunction with the Corinthian Otters hosted the first of the 2016 “Super Saturday Dinghy series” comprising of 2 races on a Saturday morning once a month from April to October. The racing is for all ages and is split into 3 classes Optimists, Slow handicap, Fast handicap (inc. Mums and Dads).
Edwin Buckley “Endeavour race officer “along with his apprentice Ed Aspinall and a very able race team set a great course in challenging shifty conditions and also trialled a new mixed fleet starting system which proved a great success, getting 30 boats in 3 classes away in 9 minutes.
The racing was great fun, with several crews racing for the very first time up against national and international sailors and the odd trans- Atlantic rower. The age range was 8 to almost 60.
Races were won by Ben Hutton Penman and Imogen Palmer (Optimist fleet), Ben Barr & Phoebe Barr -2 bullets racing a Cadet in the slow handicap, and in the fast handicap wins were shared between Tommy Rands -Laser, and Scarlett Anderson handicapped by her Dad, in an RS200.
With a total of 14 races and 2 discards for the series, all chocolates are still up for grabs so the invitation to other Crouch clubs to come and join the fun is open.
