Second Dinghy Super Saturday 21 May 2016
Super Saturday no2 (races 3 & 4) took place this weekend with a record turnout of 38 boats. The slow handicap was boosted by several Cadet national squad visitors looking to get some practice in before next week’s world team indicator so the competition was fierce along with a change of boat for Ben HP trying out a Feva for the first time before next week’s Nationals.
The fast handicap saw the return of the grandfather of the fleet Ant Law in an RS Aero, novice laser sailor Andy Ramsey from Yachting solutions, twice Cowes week winner Malcolm Hutchins in a Fireball and the first outing for the big guns Olly Moon and Mark Ellis in their Phantoms. The Oppies were joined by the Brellisford rock stars so the pressure was really on.
Racing took place off the Burnham sailing club and there was a lively contingent of spectators looking on from the shore, who were very well entertained in the first race with most of the fast handicap hot shots providing lessons in how not to negotiate the gybe mark followed by how to right a capsized dinghy.
Fast Handicap Race 3 honours were taken by the Aeros of Nick HP followed by Ant Law and in Race 4 Nick again followed by Christie Peel in a Laser 4.7. The overall series leader is Nick HP.
In the Slow Handicap both races were taken by Cadet National squad visitor Megan Ferguson followed by Isabel Spears but overall series leader remains our own National squad sailor Ben Barr crewed by Phoebe Barr.
Oppie fleet Race 3 winner was Will VanSchagen followed by Muiris Telford and in Race 4 Florence Brellisford took the chocolates followed by Ollie Mears who remains a very consistent overall series leader.
51 boats have now taken part in four races so don’t be left out – come and join the fun!
